Measurement of Cervical Length

It is an ultrasound, via the vagina, absolutely safe for measuring the cervical length during pregnancy.

It is recommended for women at high risk of preterm birth, including multiple pregnancies, with previous preterm birth, uterine or cervical abnormalities, previous surgery.

This test is usually performed during the pregnancy time period, when pregnant women are having the level II ultrasound, but for women with a preterm birth might be required a series of follow-up ultrasounds starting at week 16.
